This paper explores the foundations of IRRE’s approach to advocating for students and their families, and for building high quality and supportive relationships throughout schools.
Detailing IRRE’s Family and Student Advocacy System, the authors explain how it integrates and reinforces other core First Things First strategies, discuss learnings gathered from the first implementation of this work, explore some of the major challenges to implementing advocacy effectively, and offer some preliminary conclusions about how advocacy can impact students, and what key supports are necessary to make it successful.
