IRRE Releases Education Quality: What It Is and How To Measure It

What constitutes a good school, a successful school district, a state where students are getting a good education? Recently, we published Education Quality: What It Is and How to Measure It.  This brief article presents 8 principles and examples of how schools, districts and state departments of education can rethink and retool their measures of education quality.  Our president, Dr. James Connell, argues that current approaches rely too much on comparing students, teachers and schools and fail to describe the actual quality of their accomplishments and the factors that contribute to those accomplishments.  He lays out how existing measures of students’ academic performance along with student and teacher survey results can be combined into powerful metrics for designing and monitoring efforts to improve quality at the school, district and state levels.
