Dr. Julie Broom, IRRE’s Director of Instruction and Field Services, and Anissa Collins, Director of Instructional Supports, will be presenting at the 2012 Gaston County Schools Teaching and Learning conference. This years’ conference is being held at Gaston College on August 8th and 9th in Dallas, North Carolina. Dr. Broom will be facilitating two sessions highlighting key elements of IRRE’s approach and supports for strengthening classroom instruction. The first session, titled Checking for Understanding: Formative Assessment in Action will provide an in depth look at the use of formative assessments in the classroom to check for student understanding. The second session, titled Engagement, Alignment and Rigor: Key Indicators of Success, will focus on gaining a clearer understanding of three key indicators of effective instructional practice: engagement, alignment, and rigor along with strategies for implementing them in the classroom.
