Districts and Schools
First Things First works with state education departments, districts, and schools that vary dramatically in size, ethnic make-up, and reforms they have tried before. Despite their differences, all of the First Things First schools share important characteristics. First, too many students at these schools have become disengaged from schooling as it is currently offered. Second, these schools serve significant numbers of poor students and many students of color - who, as groups, have typically not had access to the most engaging and rigorous education we know how to offer. And, third, all are determined to provide their young people with the opportunities and education they deserve.
