JULIE M. BROOM
As director of instructional supports, Julie works with all IRRE teams on instructional improvement as well as serving partner districts and schools directly. She provides vision and concrete direction to IRRE’s instructional focus as well as continuously builds her own and the instructional team members’ skills to coach and train in schools.
She brings her formidable skills as a trainer to this role and continually incorporates new strategies and content to strengthen engagement, alignment and rigor in First Things First classrooms. She also works with school and district leaders to strengthen their roles as instructional leaders.
Julie began her work with First Things First as the School Improvement Facilitator for Sharpstown Middle School in the Houston Independent School District (HISD). She then served as site director for the seven high schools and middle schools that were implementing First Things First in HISD.
Julie has taught every grade level from kindergarten through 12th grade and has served in numerous administrative roles. She holds a certificate as a reading specialist and has concentrated on the needs of secondary school learners. She earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Houston Baptist University.
