Strengthen Instruction in Every Classroom, Every Day

Too often isolated in classrooms, teachers struggle to keep fresh and expand their repertoire of instructional techniques. Equally, the districts that employ them struggle to find a consistent, overarching approach that can work across grades, subjects, and individual styles. IRRE’s instructional approach achieves both rigor and flexibility by measuring all strategies against three overarching goals:

  • Engagement: Students are actively involved — cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally — in their academic work.
  • Alignment: Students are doing work that reflects academic standards set by their district and state, and have opportunities to master the methods used on their state’s high-stakes assessments.
  • Rigor: Teachers expect and support high levels of work from all students.

These instructional goals, referred to as EAR, infuse all of the IRRE trainings, coaching supports, curricula, and instructional tools and processes. They apply within content areas and across them. They can focus the work of a multidisciplinary team within a learning community as well as academic departments and specific courses. Struggling and outstanding teachers can reach for ever higher levels toward these goals. When they are met, students learn more and all groups of students perform at higher levels.

IRRE focuses on strengthening instruction among all teachers and on developing instructional leaders through real-time coaching and effective use of data to achieve EAR goals.
